Don’t dress inappropriately. How you present yourself says a great deal about your professionalism, so wearing the wrong clothes can get you off on the wrong foot immediately. Also, you don’t want to wear strong col ogne or perfume to your interview. Women should leave the stilettos and dark fingernail polish at home when going for an interview. This is especially true if you’re interviewing at a conservative or high-profile company or corporation. Dress for interview success in classic business clothes, be well-groomed, and keep everything else moderate. Don’t be a name dropper or know-it-all. No one likes people who do these things, why would an interviewer? You want to be enthusiastic and sell yourself, of course, but appearing as if you already know everything there is to know about the job you’re interviewing for or dropping names that you feel will give you an edge will more likely get you seen to the door quickly. Instead, be attentive and curious and yo u’ll get the brownie points you need.
